Electricity Savings

In addition to the editorial on services brought on line by the Federation, I feel it is appropriate to single out electricity for a special mention.

With the news that domestic water rates are to be brought into operation added to by ever increasing fuel costs, any method of saving money is a blessing. ESB Independent Energy who are the owners of Coolkeragh power station are offering their services to businesses and private member clubs who have an annual bill of £4,000 + VAT per year or more. Clubs are generally heavy users of electricity, due to many things, not least of which are cool rooms which run 24–7 and heating & ventilation. All that is required is for a club to sign up with ESB Independent Energy and everything carries on as normal.

The savings are as follows: If you currently pay quarterly you will save 10%. On the other hand if you pay by a monthly direct debit you will save 7%.

Once you decide to move you simply contact them and a Customer Relationship Manager will manage the entire switching process. This is moving someway towards the mainland where numerous companies can provide your electricity supply and is similar to the growth in the number of companies offering telephone services in the province.

The company recognises that electricity charges are a significant part of your operating costs. It must also be remembered that electricity charges in Northern Ireland are higher than in the remainder of the UK, which places clubs and businesses at a disadvantage. Based in Belfast, ESB Independent Energy have been active since 1999, with many of the province’s top companies having switched to them from NIE.
